The Russell House is demolished Jan. 4, 1906, to make way for the Pontchartrain Hotel.

The Russell House on Dec. 6, 1906, shortly before demolition began. A sign on the front of the famed hotel advertises that everything inside was for sale ahead of the wreckers descending on the building.
