On May 17th 1917, ground was broken for the new YMCA on East Jefferson.

The branch on Jefferson was named the Hannan Memorial YMCA thanks to a sizable donation from Luella, William Washington Hannan's wife.

The YMCA provided classes, sports leagues, meeting spaces, after-school programs, an in-house newspaper and a place for the community to unite.

The YMCA sold the building to the United States Department of Labor in 1974. They planned to use it as a Job Corps training center.

The Hannan Memorial YMCA Building was like a fortress. Bars were put on the windows and security cameras installed to ensure no intruders entered the campus.
