William Lennane House (5461 Brush)

The William Lennane House, now home to the Detroit Association of Women's Clubs, is located at 5461 Brush Street in Detroit’s East Ferry Avenue Historic District. Designed by Smith, Hinchman & Grylls in the Colonial Revival style, the house was completed in 1913. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 10, 1980.

The Detroit Association of Women's Clubs began in 1921 with eight clubs. It reached its peak membership in 1945 with 3,000 members. The DAWC is part of the oldest African American organization to date, The National Association of Colored Women's Clubs, Inc., established in 1896 and headquartered in Washington, D.C. The building is currently undergoing renovations.
