Built 1896-97, the Julius T. Melchers House at 723 Seyburn St. was designed by Donaldson & Meier for renowned Detroit sculptor Julius Theodore Melchers. The Colonial Revival residence is distinguished by its richly carved front gable, executed by Melchers himself, and is one of the architectural gems of Detroit's West Village Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Between 2001 and 2006, McIntosh Poris Architects led a comprehensive restoration and renovation of the house. The project included new mechanical systems, structural stabilization, meticulous restoration of Julius Melchers' hand-carved exterior details using historic photographs, a new cedar-and-copper roof, and a complete interior reconfiguration that modernized the home while preserving its historic character.
