Work on this magnificent, imposing church at Junction Avenue and Vernor Highway began in 1921, with the cornerstone being laid on July 10 of that year. The completed church was dedicated on May 30, 1923.

The bell tower, known as a campanile, followed three years later, and was dedicated as a memorial to Redeemer’s parishioners who gave their lives during World War I.

The complex, designed by Donaldson & Meier, consumes an entire block, and is comprised by the church, rectory, elementary and high schools, a convent and an activities hall. Today, it is the largest Latino parish in the city, and has offered Mass in Spanish since 1969.

The old Redeemer, built in 1897, was torn down after the church opened and replaced by more of the campus.
