The Harper Theater opened on Friday Dec 1, 1939 with 2000 seats and was operated by the Wisper & Wetsman theater chain.

It operated as a movie theater until it was rebranded and transformed into a nightclub in the 1970s. In 1979, it was turned into a heavy metal venue.
