Historic Detroit

Every building in Detroit has a story — we're here to share it

Frederick J. Fisher Mansion

The 10,000-square-foot, 24-room mansion was designed by George D. Mason & Co. for Frederick J. Fisher (1878–1941) and his wife Bertha. Fisher was the oldest of seven brothers who made their fortunes manufacturing automobile bodies.

Throughout its history, this home has been owned by only four individuals. Dr. DeWitt Burton, the founder of Burton-Mercy Hospital, and his wife Alice Burton purchased it from the Fishers and remained its owners for 60 years.
