Dr. Albert Henry Steinbrecher and his wife, Julia, were the first owners and residents of 31 Arden Park. A native Detroiter, Steinbrecher studied medicine at the Detroit College of Medicine and began his medical practice in St. Ignace before returning to Detroit and joining the staff of St. Mary Hospital. He later became a professor at his alma mater, where he was known as the “professor of the practice of medicine.” Steinbrecher died at the house in 1917.

Designed by Richard H. Marr and built in 1916, the house is located just inside the Arden Park gates and has the appearance of an Italian villa. The two-and-a-half-story brick residence features a prominent projecting entrance framed by a triumphal-arch motif.
