Built in 1922, the Richard P. Tolle House at 830 Virginia Park Street was designed by Detroit architect Christian W. Brandt. The substantial brick residence reflects the Arts and Crafts tradition with strong Prairie-influenced elements, particularly in its broad hipped roof, wide overhanging eaves, horizontal massing, and restrained geometric detailing. The house was constructed during the later development of Virginia Park, a residential neighborhood originally platted in 1893 for Detroit's prosperous businessmen and professionals. Its homes were designed by some of the city's leading architects in a variety of architectural styles.
